Description

The hut Tičarjev dom stands at the very top of the Vršič Mountain Pass, above the tree-line zone, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful scenic Vršič road.

The hut is situated on the Trenta side of the peak Vršič, just above the Mountain Pass Vršič, over which leads a scenic road from Kranjska Gora to the Trenta Valley (Bovec).

From the hut there's an open view to the Trenta valley. On the east side, behind the southern slopes of Vršič and Sovna glava, rises the mighty wall of Prisank; on the south side you can see a beautiful mountain chain stretching from Bavški Grintavec (the highest mountain on the right) over Srebrnjak and Trentski Pelc and further on, until it lowers down into Trenta valley.

The Tičar hut ranks among larger Slovene mountain huts and it is extremely popular among mountaineers and other mountain admirers. During the summer months it attracts a lot of tourists due to its easy accessibility. It’s also a very interesting destination for cyclists coming struggling up the slope either from the Trenta side or from Kranjska Gora.

The hut is a great starting point for easy or more demanding hiking and climbing tours to the surrounding mountains Prisank, Razor and the ridge of Mojstrovka.

The hut Tičarjev dom is famous for its excellent and various culinary offer and moreover, for the friendliness of the staff and waggishness of the keeper.

History

First hut was built in 1912 by mountaineers from Slovene Mountain Association - section Kranjska gora, encouraged by it's president Dr. Josip Tičar. It was called Slovene hut, as a contrary to Austro-German Voss hutte nearby. After the WW II, the hut was taken by Jesenice mountaineers club, which rebuilt it. Soon after Dr Tičar died, the hut was named by this honnourable man, father of Upper Sava valley mountaineers, and cofounder of mountain rescue service as Tičarjev dom. !966 a new, modern hut was built on the same place and is since then a very popular spot for mountaineers and other visitors of Vršič area.
