The hut Zavetišče pod Špičkom has many visitors due to its position by the route to Mount Jalovec. It stands on the edge of the scree under a well visible rock peak named Špiček (Špiček actually means a pointed peak). It looks like a nest surrounded by a magnificent breath-taking scenery of mighty summits.
The hut offers one of the most beautiful views in the Julian Alps. Towards the East stretches Rutarska Trenta basin, full of mountain pines, running down to the valley of Zadnja Trenta, and looking over up to Zgornja Trenta, your eye catches the summits of Prisojnik, Razor, Planja and Pihavec, behind the Pihavec mountain you can spot Mount Triglav; on the Southeast and South side your eye follows the ridge with Ušje and Trentski Pelc above the Zadnja Trenta valley, and fortheron it catches the rocky slopes of the other Pelc peaks and on (Vodnikov) Vršac mountain. Turning westward you can see the mountains Mali Ozebnik in Vrh Zelenic rising just above the hut, and looking north you see the Veliki Ozebnik, concealing the view of Mount Jalovec, whereas the companion on the right of the Veliki Ozebnik is the mighty Velika Dnina mountain with its steep slopes.
The friendly keepers will be always glad to welcome you and will offer you delicious stews, Carniolan sausage and home-baked bread, and many other goodies.
